Yesodey Hatorah Primary Girls School is a nursery in the Hackney area of London that provides care for children aged from birth to three. The setting is open during term time only, from Monday to Thursday between 9am and 4pm, and on Fridays from 9am to 12.45pm. Staff take children outdoors each day for fresh air and physical activity. At its inspection in December 2024, Ofsted judged the day nursery to be Good overall.

The Ofsted report noted that staff use both Yiddish and English for songs and teaching new words. Children are supported to develop independence, with those under two able to choose their own toys from accessible resources. According to the inspector, staff have good partnerships with parents and provide them with daily updates. Activities include local walks where children learn about seasonal changes, nature and animals. The inspector suggested the day nursery could enhance children's engagement with books and further develop their understanding of feelings.

Our ethos

Yesodey Hatorah School exists to meet the needs of the Charedi Jewish families in Stamford Hill, an area that is home to the biggest Orthodox Jewish community in Europe. The Charedi community makes up about 10% of Hackney's population and is growing at about 5% per annum. It is distinguished by its stringent adherence to and practice of Charedi Judaism. The school is guided by the authority of the Rabbinate of the Union of Orthodox Hebrew Congregations. Keeping a constant focus on excellence, opportunity and on our Charedi identity ensures that Torah values and an ethos of achievement are nurtured in the school's everyday life and routines. Each pupil is expected to adhere to Torah observance and reflect the ''three pillars of Judaism'', Torah, Prayer and Acts of Loving Kindness in their work. What it's like

Staff have very close and caring relationships with children in this warm and nurturing nursery, creating a family atmosphere where each child is known and valued. They have high expectations and manage behaviour positively, with all children making good progress through a challenging curriculum involving stimulating experiences.
