Walkington Pre-School is a charity-run establishment in Beverley, East Riding of Yorkshire, committed to providing a nurturing environment where children are valued for their unique qualities. Operating from the pavilion adjacent to the playing fields, the pre-school maintains a high staff-to-child ratio, ensuring each child receives individual attention to support their development.
The dedicated and experienced team works closely with parents and carers, with each child assigned a key person to foster a sense of security and care. The pre-school encourages parental involvement, with an elected committee of volunteer parents overseeing key decisions, finances, and staff management, ensuring the setting remains community-focused.
They also welcome fundraising support due to government funding not fully covering operational costs. The nursery prides itself on its strong community ties and emphasises ongoing staff training in areas such as paediatric first aid and safeguarding.

Inclusion & environment
Children enjoy exploring the resources in the well-planned learning environments, indoors and outside. Staff make excellent use of the local woods as a place for children to learn through regular visits, helping them understand changes over the year and developing a deep understanding of the natural world.
Children who speak English as an additional language hear and use their home languages in the pre-school. This boosts their self-esteem and understanding of pre-school routines. Staff teach children about the different cultures and customs of families. Children gain an understanding and develop positive attitudes about communities beyond their own.
An incredible preschool both of my children have attended. The staff are so kind and nurturing. Both of my children have become ‘school ready’ and loved their time at Walkington.
